Rogue Police Officer Facing 5 Charges Arrested Demanding Bribes

-

  • The Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) nabbed a notorious Police Inspector caught collecting bribes from liquor shops in Narok.

According to a report dated Wednesday, December 14, the officer was nabbed in the company of four other suspects.

The officer was reportedly the mastermind of the gang of five that routinely collected bribes from liquor shop owners in the town.

“Five suspects masquerading as Kenya Revenue Authority officials have been arrested in Narok town as they terrorized businessmen dealing in the liquor business,” DCI reported.

The officer, who is already facing five other charges revolving around impersonation in various courts was leading the gang in terrorizing liquor shop owners for failing to comply with the necessary requirements to run their businesses.

“The officer has a total of five ongoing court cases for the offenses of impersonation, three at the Nakuru law Court and two others at the Milimani law Courts.

They demanded hefty bribes failure to which they threatened to shut down their businesses,” read part of the statement.

The traders, who have been experiencing a low turnout of customers, got tired of the harassment from the alleged officials.

The traders and shop owners rushed to the DCI and made a report prompting the officers to act on the gang swiftly.

The suspects were taken into custody and were being processed to answer to charges of impersonation, extortion, forgery and other allied offenses.

In recent months, the DCI has been fighting crime after receiving massive support from the national government.

As a result, another leader of a notorious gang was arrested in Naivasha on December 13 while getting his share of stolen electronics worth millions.

He had just resurfaced after months of hiding shortly after release from a 6-year sentence.
