  • In a bid to escape the busy, noisy, and crowded cities like Nairobi, Kenyans are known to relax at reclusive joints or the new crop of Airbnbs in the suburbs.

Kenyans part with a chunk of their coins for a night or even a weekend to enjoy an experience of home away from home.

One Airbnb was a topic of discussion for its unique appearance and amenities. The traditional mud hut, a one-bedroom house in Siaya county, provides the experience of life before the storey stone apartments.

The Ksh3,000 ($29) a night room is eco-friendly as all the electronics use solar panels. It can accommodate two guests at a time.

Despite its traditional look, the room is equipped with a television set, a radio, lighting, and smartphone charging ports to keep the visitors entertained.

“Away from the hectic of Nairobi, rustic mud huts are tucked away between corn fields and bushes on a fenced plot near Ugunja,” read part of the property description.

The property has been open for booking since January 2022, and for all the guests, a gas cooker and other kitchen utensils are available. The double bed also comes with a mosquito net.

“Breakfast and traditional food can be offered optimally, also outdoors under a mango tree,” the property description read on.

According to the listing, check-in is from 12 pm to 6 pm, and check-out is from 8 am to 11 am.

It is also listed as kid-friendly due to the spacious playing area that also doubles up as a parking space. It, however, does not allow pets or smoking on the premises.

On cancellation, the visitors ought to cancel 60 days prior to get a 100 per cent refund and at least four weeks before check-in to get a 50 per cent refund, failure to which no compensation is available for cancellation.

Noteworthy, the booking fee is not included in the refund amount.
