  • Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu adopted the multi-sectoral approach to handle national examinations slated to start on November 28.

Speaking on Thursday, November 17, in Kisumu during a preparedness exercise, Machogu stated that the new strategy will involve all government departments where specific officials will be deployed to help administer the exams.

The multi-agency approach is aimed at ensuring the exercise is not compromised.

“We are here to give an assurance to the country that we are well prepared for this year’s examinations. The entire government, including my colleagues in the Cabinet will take part in the exercise,” Machogu stated.

Machogu, who succeeded Prof George Magoha, however, urged all government officials involved in the exercise from the multi-agency team to work closely, adding that their synergy will enable the ministry effectively manage exams.

The CS further stated the Ministry of Education will involve all Cabinet Secretaries, imitating a similar approach which was used by the former regime to administer national exams.

“We have been able to send out examinations papers to all the 493 examination centres and storage facilities.  This is an exercise where the entire government is involved,” he stated

“My colleagues in the cabinet will be following this. We want to give assurance to Kenyans that this process will not be compromised, everything will be credible,” Machogu stated.

To tame cases of exam malpractice, Machogu indicated that all centre managers had been sensitised on the need to uphold high standards of integrity.

Additionally, Machogu revealed that adequate security personnel had been deployed to all examination centres across the country.

Machogu, who unsuccessfully contested for Kisii gubernatorial race in the August 8 General Election, reiterated that school heads will act as centre managers during the exercise.

The strategies will also be effected with the help of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) office, which was tasked with monitoring social media platforms to curb exam leakages.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KEPSEA) exam for grade six is set to start on Monday, November 28, 2022, and end on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

KEPSEA will run concurrently with the Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE). On the other hand, Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education is slated to kick off on November 21.
