A Church requested for bribe to allow me speak, it shocked me -Hon Isaac Mwaura

-

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has revealed damning moments when a church demanded some cash first before giving him a platform to speak.

Speaking to NTV Kenya on Tuesday, amlive show, the Senator regretted that moral decay in the churches had reached the ceiling.

While reacting to Catholic bishops’ ban on politicians, Mwaura accused some religious leaders favouritism when it comes to addressing the congregation.

“They went ahead and said they will not allow politicians to talk in church, well and good. But sometimes there is favouritism. There was a time I was told to give some money in advance so that I can be given a platform.

I was shocked, I did not give and I was actually denied to speak. The second time I was also denied but the congregation rose up in numbers against the pastor and that is how low we have sank as a country,” claimed the Senator.

Mwaura further urged religious leaders to stop running a secret agenda claiming that they were targeting the Deputy President William Ruto in the new directive.

“Let me tell you, the most popular person to be invited in churches for Harambees, where we have received letters, tens of them is William Ruto. So lets not just try to… this is politicking because who has never attended Harambee.

Let us not pretend here that Harambees have become so evil that they should not be…. the church should pronounce itself objectively without looking like they are supporting a political agenda,” roared Mwaura.

The Senator’s sentiments come barely three days after the Catholic church banned cash donations on cash more than Ksh50,000.

The church also directed that politicians should not be allowed to address the congregation during the liturgical celebrations.

The Kenya Conference of the Catholic Bishops (KCCB) announce the new directive on Saturday during their national prayers at Subukia, Nakuru County.
