ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo was on Sunday, December 4 trolled by netizens on his return to Raila Odinga’s backyard in Siaya County.
This was after the CS detailed how he had led a relief food distribution drive in Siaya County and later in Kisumu County.
“On behalf of President William Ruto, I have this morning flagged off the distribution of relief food to the residents of Siaya at Awelo Open Air Grounds in Siaya Town,” Owalo shared.
According to the CS, the distribution focused on the vulnerable and underprivileged who are most affected by the drought situation.
However, Kenyans took issue with the fact that the CS was busy distributing relief food in Siaya instead of focusing on his ministry.
“I think you people love the events of flagging off relief aid. I wonder if countries like Sweden or U.S. would be performing these kinds of acts because they would get very tired,” commented Michael Omondi Oduol on Facebook.
Kwame Makogidi, another Facebook user faulted Owalo for the relief food drive advising him to change tact if he is on a mission to endear President William Ruto to voters from the lakeside county.
“Are you an ICT or Relief Food Minister?” wondered Dalvin Juma on Facebook.
“Bring ICT-related stuff and stop this foolishness of relief food every time. You can even promote Siaya Technical College with some desktops for learning but the problem with your brain is that it is concentrated around food,” Juma added.
“Congratulations Cabinet Secretary of Relief Food,” Sharon Mulwa sarcastically commented on Owalo’s post on Twitter.
“With all due respect, we need to automate industries in Siaya with smart manufacturing technology. This mission of relief food is a fool’s errand. Rethink your legacy,” Monique Attie urged the CS on Twitter.
President William Ruto launched the relief food distribution drive to deal with the effects of the drought that is currently affecting over 23 counties with 10 of them being in the alarm stage.
Owalo was accompanied by Kenya Kwanza politicians from the larger Nyanza region including Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, former MPs Nicholas Gumbo, and Fred Outa as well as former Siaya Governor Jack Ranguma among others.
Top government officials led by the President and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have previously flagged relief food in various parts of the country.
Owalo was Raila Odinga’s aide before the two fell apart and joined Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress – ANC party.
