  • A five-member gang dressed as police officers robbed relatives and friends traveling from a wedding money and other valuables worth Ksh500,000 at gunpoint.

The guests, who were traveling in two private vehicles along the Ol Kalou-Nakuru highway were flagged down by the gang members pretending to be police officers on Saturday, February 4.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer in charge of Nyandarua Central, Eric Ochieng, the criminals proceeded to drive the vehicles with the victims on board to a forest claiming to take them to a police station.

Ochieng stated that the gang ransacked and robbed the victims in the forest, and tied them to a tree before escaping using one of the victims’ vehicles.

“The occupants were ordered to alight and lie down in the forest before being robbed of their belongings worth Sh236,200 and Sh222,900 in cash and M-Pesa transactions,” Ochieng explained.

However, the vehicle that the gang used to escape would later be found abandoned, and burnt in Nakuru.

While speaking to kenyans.co.ke, Nakuru’s OCPD Peter Mwanzo confirmed that the officers found the vehicle in the Barnabas area in Nakuru County on Sunday, February 5.

“The vehicle was towed to Mwariki police station and the DCI officer from Ol Kalau confirmed that it was hijacked from his location.

“We released the vehicle to the DCI officers who are continuing with the investigations, ” Mwanzo added.

Police officers stated that they believed that the gang tracked the unsuspecting victims for a while before the attack.

“It is possible they even attended the wedding or had informers at the wedding,” Ochieng noted.

Police officers from both Nakuru and Nyandarua who were still pursuing the criminals by the time of publishing this article called on members of the public to be wary of individuals selling electronics.

“We urge members of the public to contact the police if they come across someone selling suspected stolen mobile phones, watches, and other electronics,” DCI officer Ochieng stated.

In a separate incident on Thursday, January 19, DCI officers, arrested two impostors armed with fake pistols who attempted to rob an apartment in Kiambu County.

“One of the thugs pulled the James Bond stunt that backfired terribly after he fell and severely injured his head,” DCI narrated.
