  • Local actor Frank Kimani famously known as Wandahuhu was rescued from the poverty den after his unfortunate living standards went viral on social media.

Addressing his situation on Wednesday, December 14, philanthropist Karangu Muraya announced that after a consultation, his friend named Chris had offered to gift the actor a parcel of land to construct a house.

“My friend has offered to give him a 50 by 100 plot worth Ksh600,000 at Kangundo road where he will build a house which will never be closed because of rent,” he stated.

His fellow actor, Gikarati, confirmed Chris’ generous offer that came about after Wandahuhu’s troubles became a trend on social media.

He stated that despite the actor appearing on TV in several shows, he couldn’t make ends meet after getting very little income from the skits he did.

“Our legend started acting many years ago. At that time, there was no much money as one could think. Yes, I know you have been seeing him in many movies but he is given a role like the other characters and payment is not as much as you think.

“For example, he may be given Ksh5,000 for the main movie role which is not consistent, it’s true he has much rent arrears,” Gikarati explained.

Clarifying why the actor could not depend on his family’s help, he made it known that he was the only child to a single mother who passed on while he was just three months old.

He had previously tried to reach out to friends for help but they all turned their back on him.

“Most of his famous friends no longer pick up his calls because they are in important meetings,” he added.

Among the famous shows that Wangahuhu appeared in are; Vashita (alongside Eve D’Souza), Muicii na Kihii show and other central region cinemas.

Commenting on local actors’ lives, he talked of how they are judged for living good lives while they suffer in silence.

“The truth is that behind these faces we see on TV every day, some of these people are going through a lot. It’s very possible to have a massive following and crazy fans who want a selfie with you yet you are struggling even to feed yourself. It takes a true fan to understand that being a celeb is not your net worth,” Gikarati noted.

Muraya has been on the front line in helping people. He recently raised over Ksh100,000 for a struggling family who needed a house.
