  • Azimio la Umoja party leader Raila Odinga postponed the Mombasa rally that had been scheduled for Saturday, February 25, to a later date.

In a statement sent by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications, Philip Etale, to Kenyans.co.ke, the coalition will instead hold the meeting in Kakamega County on the same date.

The coalition also announced that it will hold a people’s Baraza meeting in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, February 26.

Etale noted that the change was aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in the coalition’s activities.

“Following consultations among the top leadership of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and the grassroots leaders on the ongoing nationwide public engagement, the following changes have been made to next weekend’s calendar of activities.”

“To better coordinate its activities, the party made a decision to clear with western Kenya, before proceeding to other parts of the country,” the statement read in part.

However, the prayer rally, slated for Wednesday, February 22, remains unchanged. The aim of the prayer rally, according to Raila’s recent remarks, was aimed at calling for divine intervention for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The prayers would be held outside IEBC’s main offices at Anniversary towers, along the University Way.

“This week, we shall be in Kisii on Friday, February 17, and go to Kisumu on Saturday, February 18. We will also be doing a prayer for the IEBC so that we get an IEBC that will defend the rights of our people and that prayer will be done in front of the IEBC premises sometime next week,” he announced.

The ODM party leader has been adamant that he won the 2022 August presidential election and noted that he would not relent until electoral justice was served.

“Do we wish to put these things under the carpet? Somebody got 5.9 million votes and the other got 8.1 million votes. Those are the facts and they cannot be swept under the carpet.

‘We must defend electoral justice in our country and what we have told our members of Parliament to do. This is a right nobody can take away from us,” he stated after meeting Azimio senators on Wednesday, February 15.
