  • At least three security officers were killed while seven more were injured after being ambushed by 300 suspected armed bandits in Pokot.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday night, February 10 at around 11.50 pm.

The police were from Kainuk and Lokichar police stations continuing with their normal patrols along the Kitale-Lodwar highway.

Reports indicate that approximately 200 bandits laid the ambush on the officers prompting them to fire back.

“As the security officers were concentrating on neutralising the attackers, they were attacked from behind by another group of about 100 armed bandits surrounding the officers from all directions,” read part of the police reports.

Turkana County Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident noting that the region experienced two attacks on Friday, February 10.

The shoot-out reportedly went on for about two hours before the bandits fled leaving behind fatalities and several injured security personnel.

Following the incident, the injured officers were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Furthermore, three land cruisers among other vehicles used by the officer had their tyres deflated with other several damages inflicted by the bandits still at the scene.

Recently several bandit attacks have been reported despite Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s vow to radically and ruthlessly deal with the rebels.
