  • An investigations team probing Arshad Sharif’s death has alleged that the journalist handed over his laptop to former Pakistan minister of communications Murad Saeed prior to leaving Pakistan.

According to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Director Dr. Athar Waheed and Intelligence Bureau (IB) Deputy Director-General Omar Shahid Hamid, the laptop is a key asset to aid in the investigations.

The FID director instructed Saeed to present himself and produce the laptop to the investigations team on Monday, November 28.

“During the proceedings of the finding team, it has come on record that you are in possession of an Apple MacBook of deceased senior journalist Arshad Sharif.

“Therefore, you are requested to provide the device of the deceased, enabling the fact-finding team to ascertain the facts regarding the assassination of a senior journalist in Kenya.”

“You are requested to cooperate with the fact-finding team as we have to submit the report to the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court wherein it has been directed to share the inquiry report,” read part of the statement from the investigations team.

According to Geo News, Saeed declined to make any comments regarding the FIA’s summons. He, however, shared a letter he wrote to the investigation team, expressing his frustrations in the ongoing probe.

In Saeed’s letter, he noted that he was willing to present himself before the judicial commission and present all information and evidence he has.

The investigations team also traced Sharif’s iPad and iPhone in London. International reports claim that the devices are in the possession of a powerful Pakistani politician whose influence stretched across the globe.

Sharif met his death on October 23, 2022, in an incident that Kenyan police claimed to be a case of mistaken identity.

However, Pakistani detectives and officials alleged that Sharif’s killing was a carefully executed plan and not a mix-up as claimed by Kenyan authorities.
