  • Police in Nakuru launched a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers who were caught on CCTV camera reportedly robbing a mobile money agent of Ksh1.7 million in broad daylight.

The CCTV footage recorded the main suspect, a Kisii University student and a close relative of the business owner, opening the door for his accomplice, who went ahead to draw a Ceska pistol and pointed it at the mobile money agent employee.

During the altercation, the suspects were seen assaulting the agent before stashing the cash in their bag and taking off in the November 2022 incident.

Moments before the robbery, the employee had deposited the previous day’s earnings at a nearby financial institution.

According to the CCTV footage, the employee returned to the shop at 8:50 am, six minutes before the second suspect walked in with a bag carrying the gun.

The Kisii University student had been waiting at the customers’ lounge, seemingly restless.

Before executing the heist, the student handcuffed the shop attendant and even covered his mouth before they collected all the money.

The shop owner reported the matter at the Nakuru Central Police Station, where he accused the Kisii University student of unsuccessfully trying to remove the CCTV camera’s memory card.

“We’ve profiled their communication and we’re trying to identify who the second suspect is because one is known. I know we will get them very soon,” Nakuru’s Police Commandant Peter Mwanzo stated.

At the same time, detectives based in Nakuru placed the attacker’s signal at Isibania, a town bordering Tanzania.

However, the police urged the members of the public to volunteer information that would help in the arrest of the suspects.

“There are one or two issues isolated here and there. But we want to develop a clean sheet and we have increased patrol and surveillance,” Mwanzo stated while assuring Nakuru residents of their safety.
