Details of Top US Military Official Visit to Kenya

  • A top US military chief on Wednesday, November 23 held talks with Deputy President William Ruto in Nairobi.

    The deliberations between General Michael Langley, the Combatant Commander of the United States Africa Command and the DP focused on bilateral relations between the two countries.

    In a statement, Gachagua indicated that they held talks regarding military partnerships between Nairobi and Washington, D.C.

    The duo also engaged in the ongoing joint military operation across the continent.

    “Kenya is proud of its historical ties with the USA in a relationship steeped in years of trust. 

    “We look forward to more partnerships with the American Government as we continue to take up our role as a key anchor state in the region,” he stated.

    Langley was accompanied by the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, among other officials from the embassy.

    Kenya’s delegation was represented by Defence CS Aden Duale, National Security Advisor Monica Juma, and Foreign affairs officials among others.

    In a separate press release by the US Africa Command, it was noted that the military boss was touring various African countries to oversee various programmes being implemented.

    It was revealed that over 800 Kenyan soldiers were undergoing training in preparation for various operations in the continent.

    “JA23, scheduled for late January to late February 2023, is designed to build readiness for the U.S. Joint Force, support counter-terrorism operations, and prepare regional partners for United Nations and African Union-mandated missions.

    “The training will feature a multinational command post exercise, a field training exercise, a live-fire exercise, a maritime exercise, and academic courses focused on special operations and cyber capabilities,” read the statement in part.
