  • When Brian Levitan left Kenya to the United Kingdom in search of better healthcare, he did not know that his stay in the country would transform from temporary to permanent.

The Kenyan-born postmaster, however, fell in love with the topography of a small town in England known as Ravenglass.

He first saw the Cumbrian village in photos and fell in love with the place before he decided to stay.

While in the country, he secured a job as a postmaster running his own Post Office and newsagents in Main Street.

“This is such a beautiful area that I have no regrets about moving here 30 years ago. It is such a peaceful and pleasant place to live and work.

“I used to go for long walks, but there are so many wonderful views without hiking,” he told the News & Star in England.

Levitan carried the work diligently for 30 years and maintained that he remained opened during the pandemic since he was providing crucial services.

To honour his service, he was presented with the Post Office 30 Years’ Long Service Award.

“There are no nearby banks, so people need to come here to withdraw cash and to do their banking on behalf of all the high street banks.

“I was also busy with people sending parcels to people that they could not meet,” he added.

His boss, Post Office area manager, Chris Ball, praised Levitan’s work ethic for attending to the residents’ needs as well as those of tourists for three decades.

“I want to thank Brian for loyally serving the residents, businesses and tourists in Ravenglass for three decades,” stated Levitan.
