  • Rana Sanaullah Khan, the Pakistani Secretary of the Interior Ministry is expected to present the report on the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif to the Supreme Court on Monday, December 5.

The investigation committee formed by the government to probe the murder of the senior journalist completed its work and submitted the report to the interior secretary on Saturday, December 3.

This followed weeks of the committee’s probing of the journalist’s murder in Kenya on October 23.

According to sources privy to the details of the investigations, the report of the inquiry committee consists of more than 400 pages.

The report includes details gathered by the committee in Kenya and Dubai, including the interviews conducted with the prime suspects in the case.

Furthermore, the report contains the statement of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member and federal minister Faisal Vawda who had issued a press statement arguing that senior people in government were behind Arshad’s death.

Sources with knowledge of the contents of the report revealed to Samaa – a local publication in Pakistan – that investigations in Dubai will continue even after the submission of the report.

Last week, the fact-finding committee had written to authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), asking a raft of questions relating to the case.

The committee sought details regarding Sharif’s visa and other travel documents from the Dubai police apart from information related to his accommodation and any call data record (CDR).

Arshad was shot dead in Kenya by the local police on Sunday, October 23, night along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in a “mistaken identity case”.

Media reports indicated that the journalist was shot in the head and killed by police after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock.

The Government of Pakistan dispatched a team of detectives to Nairobi to investigate the death of the senior journalist.
