  • Njogu wa Njoroge is a popular radio presenter at Kameme FM, which broadcasts in the Kikuyu dialect and is owned by Mediamax.

Born in Kigoci, Mathira,  Nyeri county Njogu wa Njoroge is a man who does his craft with passion, a trait that made him a household name.

His mastery of the language, intonation, and accent endears him to many of his fans and radio listeners, especially when he is reading the news during morning hours.

However, unknown to many is Njogu’s rise to fame – his treacherous journey to becoming one of the most-sort-after Kikuyu news presenters.

In an interview with Kameme TV, Wachira narrated how he overcame insurmountable challenges to have footprints in Kenya’s media industry, especially the vernacular landscape.

“My parents wanted me to become a veterinary officer since they saw it as a good source of self-employment without anybody bothering you,” Wachira recalled.

Wachira recalled how he was always passionate about being on radio and at a tender age in class six, he would put a bucket on his head and mimic radio presenters. The reverberating sound would make him feel as if he was truly on radio.

Njogu narrated how he volunteered to read the Swahili articles to his classmates and this helped him build his self-confidence.

After completing his high school education, Njogu joined hands with his father as a mason.

However, luck finally came knocking, and landed a job at Bahasha FM where he met fellow Kameme presenters such as Muthoni Kirumba, Gathoni Ng’ang’a, and Njoroge Kimani.

However, his stint at Bahasha FM did not last long, after the station ran into headwinds, spelling doom for the staff.

At this point, Wachira’s world shattered. Life was hard and fending for his wife and child became a tall order.

He recalled how his friend Njoroge Kimani held his hand and introduced him to selling mitumba tops at Ngara market. This venture too came with its fair share of challenges. He would feel ashamed when he came across his former colleagues at the market where he sold second-hand clothes.

After seven months of being jobless, another door opened. He got his job at Kameme FM. Njogu celebrated his 10 years of experience at the station and reminisced about his career journey.
