  • Kenyans now have a chance to study at the University of Lincoln after the government, through Kenya’s High Commission to the United Kingdom, secured scholarship opportunities.

Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Manoah Esipisu, on Thursday, February 16, announced the scholarship opportunities after meeting the University’s Regional Manager for Africa in London.

Esipisu noted that they discussed possible ways of optimising the scholarship opportunities available for Kenyans.

“The discussions focused on the drive to recruit more Kenyans and the scholarship opportunities available to help them achieve this goal,” the High Commission noted.

According to the information available on the University’s website, the openings are under the University of Lincoln’s Africa Scholarship programme designed to help students from across Africa access postgraduate-level study at the University of Lincoln.

The openings will be available for Kenyan nationals or a person with permanent residence in Africa who will be awarded a scholarship valued at Ksh601,898.

“The Africa Scholarship is valued at Ksh601,898 and will be awarded to eligible students as a tuition fee discount during the first year of their studies,” read a statement from the University.

    Qualifications

Among the conditions listed as qualifications for the programme include being a Kenyan citizen and a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.

Alternatively, candidates will be required to provide credentials proving possession of a Pre-master’s qualification from a recognized university.

Further, prospective students will be required to have scored at least a grade C in English in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The opportunities will be rolled out in two windows with the first one coming in September 2023 and the second one slated to commence in January 2024.

Applicants eying the September intake will be required to apply before May 1 2023 while those targeting the January 2024 window will be required to have applied by December 1.

To apply, interested candidates are advised to visit or contact the Kenyan Representative of the University of Lincoln.

Besides helping in filing the applications, the University has partnered with various agencies which offer guidance on what options are available for studying in the UK, securing visa advice and support in securing accommodation and travelling to the UK.
