“This is a very great day for us as a university where we are here at the University Health Service(UHS) but we also have other satellite clinics in our various companies like Mombasa, Kisumu, Kikuyu, Lower Kabete, Upper Kabete, and Parklands,” reviewed Dr. Kiama.

He added that the University needed a comprehensive system that interlinks all those satellite centers to cater to the patients better.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the University Health Service had been put in place to take care of all the University students, staff, and their dependents.

He further commented that in order to make sure that they were accountable for the resources invested in the UHS is necessary for the system to be digitalized.

Dr Kiama also acknowledged that the university was working with the government which had developed the Afya Kenya Integrated Health System.

The system had been domiciled in the university which meant that patients from the health unit would not require to submit a file or written report when referred to other public hospitals such as Kenyatta.

The VC highlighted that the system would help in managing the drugs as they were being dispensed to improve accountability.

He however revealed that plans were in place to integrate the National Hospital Insurance Cover (NHIF) insurance cover in the university’s medical system.

Dr Kiama indicated that the university healthcare system had always hoped to offer medical services to patients from outside the University’s fraternity.
