  • Reports of Charles Njagua alias Jaguar’s appointment as the Chairperson of the Consolidated Bank Limited board made headlines on Friday, February 10, as President William Ruto made appointments of his allies to key government positions.

News of the former Starehe Member of Parliament saw him trend on social media as several Kenyans congratulated him for his new role.

However, Kenyans.co.ke established that the reports were false and misleading.

In a gazette notice dated Friday, February 10, it was established that Ruto had appointed Charles Muriuki Njagagua instead.

“I appoint Charles Muriuki Njagagua to be the chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank Limited for a period of three years with immediate effect,” read d the notice in part.

Confusion about Jaguar’s appointment had been occasioned by the similarities of the two in their names and political career.

Jaguar’s official name is Charles Kanji Njagua, per the records of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

Njagagua – who was appointed to the bank’s board – was Jaguar’s colleague in the 12th Parliament.

The appointee served as a representative for Mbeere North Constituency, having been elected on a Jubilee party ticket in the 2017 General election. Jaguar was also a member of the Jubilee party.

Additionally, the duo also joined UDA after leaving the former ruling party.

While Jaguar failed to clinch the party ticket for the Starehe seat, Njagagua was defeated by Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku of the Democratic Party (DP) in the 2022 General election.

Jaguar is yet to land any appointment in the government.
