  • The government on Thursday, February 9, announced that it had introduced a new curriculum for Kenyans considering to work in Middle Eastern countries.

The announcement was made by Labour and Social Protection Principal Secretary (PS) Geoffrey Kaituko during a consultative meeting with private recruitment agencies and home care providers.

“Pre-departure training is common for Kenyans who are traveling to Europe for postgraduate studies, they are taught the culture of the host country.

“For Kenyans who will be going to work in Gulf Countries, they will undergo a new pre-departure curriculum that will focus on basic Arabic and Saudi cultures,” the government announced.

Kaituko remarked that if Kenyans learn Arabic and Saudi cultures, 90 per cent of problems experienced by migrants will be solved.

The PS announced the new curriculum during a consultative meeting with private recruitment agencies and home care providers.

During the meeting, the government also promised to form a 15-member committee formed by key stakeholders to address the plight of Kenyan migrant workers.

“The committee will be meeting monthly before an annual general meeting to review progress in streamlining the sector,” the PS revealed.

Kenya has in recent times revamped her efforts in protecting the affairs of her citizens in the diaspora.

To address the plight of Kenyans in the diaspora, President William Ruto created a State Department for Diaspora Affairs on September 2022.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua further announced measures to protect Kenyans working outside the country, especially in Gulf Countries.

On October 2022, Mutua held a meeting with representatives of employment agents who recruit Kenyans for jobs in Saudi Arabia and other regions.

“We want to move to a point where we get to the root cause of the challenges that Kenyans face while working with governments and states that are offering opportunities for our people,” the CS announced back then.
