  • Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced plans to introduce a reward program for top performing administrators across the country.

According to the CS, the move is aimed at encouraging security personnel not to tolerate crime in the city and the country at large.

“Government administrators (NGAOs) will have specific crime-reduction goals set for them as a long-term strategy to improve the productivity of their tasks in security management,” read part of a statement dated Tuesday, February 7.

Kindiki noted that the security personnel will deal with the top three threats in the country namely, terrorism, banditry and illicit brew, and narcotics.

The CS spoke on Tuesday, February 7, while addressing a gathering in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County as well as opening the office of the Deputy County Commissioner for Kipipiri sub-county.

He urged Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, Deputy County Commissioners, and their assistants to lead in shutting down the production, distribution, and sale of illicit brews.

“The problem of toxic drugs, dangerous chemicals that are being sold in the name of alcohol; the problem of narcotics and substance abuse, especially in central Kenya, is a disaster and is threatening to wipe out this community in the future,” the CS lamented

Kindiki announced that each department will have targets and goals and each officer is expected to report up the hierarchy in the accountability structure.

He emphasised that the government will be extremely ruthless with those apprehended selling toxic substances.

“One of the targets we are setting for our officers is to make sure that we go to the dens where these substances are being manufactured and sold,” the CS announced.

It was however not disclosed what the top performers will get or whether it was from the Ministry or the CS himself.
