  • Three delivery persons are facing robbery with violence charges after they allegedly made away with electronics worth Ksh6 million from a godown in Nairobi.

In a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, February 6, the suspects raided the facility in Embakasi and loaded a truck with the smart speakers.

The men then hurriedly left the premises and drove towards the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. A complaint was filed with the police who went after them.

“The three were arrested hours after the incident in Kasikeu area within Makueni County, as they fled with the merchandise belonging to Bu-mat distributors, the statement read in part.

Upon opening the lorry, they found the stolen consignment which also included kitchenware and other goods estimated to be worth Ksh3.5 million.

“The goods loaded into a Mitsubishi canter were headed for the black market” the DCI reported.

The suspects were thereafter taken into police custody with the police making arrangements to transfer them back to Nairobi where they will be processed to answer charges.

Notably, the directorate reiterated its call to the public to reach out to them through a hotline provided on its timeline to report a crime.

According to Chapter 18 of the Penal Code (Robbery and Extortion), the suspects are liable to imprisonment of 14 years if found guilty of robbery.

However, if the investigators prove beyond reasonable doubt that violence was used in the robbery, the law provides for an even stiffer sentence.

“If the offender is armed with any dangerous or offensive weapon or instrument, or is in company with one or more other person or persons, or if, at or immediately before or immediately after the time of the robbery,

…he wounds, beats, strikes or uses any other personal violence to any person, he shall be sentenced to death,”  Section 296 reads in part.
