  • President William Ruto on Tuesday, December 6 held his fourth cabinet meeting at State House Nairobi.

Cabinet considered various policy proposals that seek to anchor the implementation of the Administration’s transformative plan for the nation.

Key among the proposals by the cabinet was the approval of the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign.

The tree-growing campaign targets to mobilize the nation in planting fifteen billion trees by the year 2030, translating to 30% national tree cover.

Equally, the cabinet resolved that all public engagements presided over by the President, the Deputy President, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and all other cadres of State or Public Officers will be marked by the planting of a designated minimum number of trees under various categories of between 200 to 500 seedlings.

On November 11, 2022, President Ruto directed that the defunct Kazi Mtaani Programme would be converted into a tree-planting initiative.

The Head of State affirmed that the move will help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change being witnessed in the country.

On matters economy, cabinet approved “Export-Led Growth” where Kenya is to strengthen existing partnerships under the East African Community, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) and the UK.

In a bid to position Kenya as the ideal investment partner, cabinet approved the hosting of the Kenya International Investment Conference in the 3rd quarter of the 2022/2023 financial year.

This is to profile investment opportunities such as Public-Private Partnerships, Foreign Direct Investments in energy and affordable housing.

Kenya’s bid to host the 2023 Africa Youth Connect Conference, is expected to attract over 10,000 youth from across the length and breadth of Africa.

The country will also play host to the Africa Private Sector Alliance Conference in March 2023. The event will bring together the top 100 companies in Africa in support of the accelerated implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.

Kenya will also host the Tripartite Free Trade Area Business Council Conference in February 2023.
