  • President William Ruto’s Hustlers Fund was launched on Wednesday, November 30 at the Green Park, Nairobi, heralding a new step towards reviving Kenya’s economy.

The Fund, which was Kenya Kwanza’a anchor promise, seeks to empower youths and turn them into independent entrepreneurs.

During the event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua caught the attention of many, when he bought a shirt worth Ksh1000 at Ksh50,000.

“I sell these shirts at 1K but since I have a Fuliza debt, I will sell to you at 5K,” the mtumba guy explained to the DP.

To his surprise, Gachagua, who has consistently defended the fund, parted with Ksh50,000 for the shirt.

Nairobi county governor Johnson Sakaja also bought a shirt from the same man at Ksh5,000.

Speaking about his business, the mtumba guy revealed that he is already listed on the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) for defaulting on previous loans because of his low income.

He stated that together with his son, who is also his business partner, would like to receive a Ksh50,000 from the fund.

“I have already received 50,0000 from Riggy G, If I get another Ksh 50K from the hustler fund, I will give it to my son because I am encouraging the youth to stay away from crime,’ he stated.

With a trolley and his smokies ready, a smokie vendor received Ksh100,000 from Safaricom’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Ndegwa.

This was after he had stated that he would sell a single smokie at Ksh50 to him.

“I will sell to you one smokie at 50bob but since I have a Fuliza debt let me sell to you at 100,” he had previously stated.

Supporting the talented artistry, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria promoted a young man selling a painting by buying a piece at Ksh60,000.

As president Ruto arrived for the Hustler Fund’s big day, together with his cabinet, they promoted the traders who had already lined  up their roasted maize outside the tent.

In the transport industry, the famous matatu sector was represented by pimped PSV, commonly known as Nganya which filled the air with its hooting as the event went on.

At the same event, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah teamed up to purchase a motorbike for a rider.

The two leaders gave Ksh 100,000 each, to help the rider own a motorbike and stop depending on one that he had hired.
