  • Drama ensued in Lodwar Turkana county after goons blocked a vehicle ferrying Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives who had arrested a former member of the County Executive Committee (CEC).

The mob wanted the detectives to release the CS, who was set to be detained at the Lodwar Police Station.

EACC, in a statement released on Tuesday, November 29, stated that their sleuths engaged with the mob for a few hours before overpowering it and rearresting him.

However, the mob followed them to the police station, demanding the release of the ex-county official.

Despite the accused being in police custody, the goons continued to cause a commotion at the premises attempting to rescue him again.

Meanwhile, the suspect was accused of forging papers from Chuka University claiming to have enrolled for a degree course in Bachelor of Economics and Sociology (Economics).

However, detectives established that the institution offers a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology.

In addition, EACC argued that the suspect failed to prove that he attended classes or sat for the exams.

Furthermore, he was accused of forging a diploma in administration, reportedly obtained from Premise Africa Development Institute.

Other charges were the wrongful acquisition of public property and collecting a salary of Ksh6.7 million as a CEC.

“EACC condemns the acts of lawlessness witnessed in Lodwar and warns all persons against mobilising supporters or hiring goons to cause chaos whenever they are summoned or sought for arrest,” EACC stated on Wednesday, November 30.

In addition, EACC warned the residents against obstructing the commission from carrying out its mandate, arguing that it is a criminal offence.

Conclusively, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) concurred with the EACC to file charges against the former county official.

The suspect will be arraigned at the Lodwar Anti-Corruption Magistrate on Wednesday, November 30.
