  • President William Ruto on Monday, November 28, addressed an order by Governor Johnson Sakaja on closure of bars and clubs in Nairobi residential areas.

Speaking during the launch of Twiga Foods at Tatu City, Ruto lauded Sakaja for the bold step, aimed at saving city dwellers from noise pollution.

“I want to assure my younger brother Sakaja of Nairobi that please keep the noise away from our children,” Ruto assured Sakaja on Monday, November 28.

He further assured the governor that he had his full support and that of the national government

Sakaja had through a directive on November 25, banned clubs in Nairobi residential areas and outlawed playing of loud music by bars and restaurants past 10.00pm.

“Nightclub licenses will only be issued to premises only within the Central Business District and specified streets in other non-residential areas,” Sakaja directed.

The support by the president came as huge relief to Sakaja who was facing backlash from different quarters for his directive.

“The governor has our support in ensuring the city has an outlook of a capital in our nation.

“We recognize what the county government is doing to reorganize the city and make it work,” Ruto voiced his admiration to Sakaja.

On Sunday, November 26, police raided club 1824 within Nairobi’s Lang’ata area and kicked out revellers before shutting it down.

Ruto further divulged that the national government was going to collaborate with Nairobi County to ensure service delivery.

“On Friday, December 2, we are going to announce Nairobi Rivers Commission that will work with county government to make sure we clean the filth in our Nairobi River,” Ruto revealed.
