  • Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, announced that President William Ruto will determine the fate of Grade Six students in the coming weeks.

Speaking during a visit to Kisumu on Tuesday, November 17, the CS explained that Ruto would issue the directives after receiving updates from the task force reviewing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

However, Ruto would issue the pronouncement on time before schools reopen in January 2023.

He also noted that both stakeholders and parents were anxious, given that Grade Six students were about to sit their exams in the coming weeks.

“What he will be giving will be information that has been collected from people all over the country.

“I want to request the parents and teachers to be patient because as we open the school by January 23, our young ones will know whether they will be domiciled in primary or in secondary schools,” he stated.

Machogu responded to parents’ concerns about the ministry delaying updating them on the ongoing curriculum review despite a new education calendar being released.

Further, he noted that the government was in top gear to ensure that the CBC class assessment was conducted promptly.

Machogu explained that they were engaging various institutions including the police to ensure that the exams are not disrupted nor linked.

“My colleagues in the Cabinet will be following the updates. We want to assure Kenyans that this process will not be compromised, everything will be credible,”

“We have sent out examinations papers to all the 493 examination centres and storage facilities.  This is an exercise where the entire government is involved,” he stated.

Grade Six students will sit their exams alongside KCPE and KCSE candidates.
