  • Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has conceded defeat to his competitor, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara Ng’ang’a, in the recently held United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations.

Mwaura on Sunday, April 17, noted that it was time to heal the wounds and forge ahead in ensuring that Deputy President William Ruto succeeds his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, in the upcoming August 9 polls.

The senator added that the party and the voice of the people were much greater than their self-interests.

“Joining hands with my competitor Simon Ng’ang’a today at Kist county tallying centre after he was declared winner of the Ruiru parliamentary seat that I hotly contested for. It’s now time to heal the deep wounds out of the party primaries and thus move forward towards the August General Election.”

“This is to ensure that the party remains united and focused towards our aim of ensuring that H.E Deputy President William Ruto becomes the 5th President our great country. The party and its ideals are far much greater than any one of us. Putting God first, we shall win!! I thank you!” he stated.

After the nominations exercise, the results showed that Ng’ang’a got 4,688 votes while senator Mwaura followed suit with 2,428 votes. The Senator had initially rejected the results, claiming that the exercise was unfair and ought to be repeated.

He urged UDA party officials to declare the Ruiru parliamentary nominations null and void.

“We will file a formal complaint to the party because what happened in Ruiru was not an election. It was all shambolic and the evidence we have is very clear. We want UDA to declare the exercise null and void and allow Ruiru people to engage in a free and fair electoral process,” Mwaura noted.

The news comes as a section of UDA aspirants who lost in the primaries have urged the party to look into their plea and conduct repeat nominations in their respective wards or constituencies.

Among the issues they have cited include partisanship, violence as well as irregularities during the period.
