Govt Closes Offices as 884 More Test Positive

  • Nairobi County has closed all government offices offering non-essential services for 30 days as the Ministry of health records 884 new Covid-19 cases countrywide.

    A report by Daily Nation indicated that the order to close the offices was informed by the recent announcement issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta indicating that the county accounted for 57 percent of all the positive cases in Kenya.

    This is even as the country’s total positive cases rose to 130,214 as of Sunday, March 28.

    The 884 new cases were recorded from a sample size of 5,377 in a period of 24 hours raising total tests to 1,468,835.

    Of the cases, 843 are Kenyans while 41 are foreigners. 464 are females and 420 are males. The youngest is a year-year-old baby while the oldest is 110 years.

    Unfortunately, 13 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours out 2 of which occurred in the last 24 hours, while 11 are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates.

    This now pushes our cumulative fatalities to 2,117.

    89 patients have recovered from the disease, 57 are from Home Based and Isolation Care, while 32 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 91,754.

    During the announcement of the closure of the  Nairobi County offices, Deputy Governor Anne Kananu noted that it was necessary to curb the spread of the virus.

    “The County Government of Nairobi will therefore close its non-essential offices for 30 days, in strict compliance with the 15th presidential address on the pandemic and the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 protocols.

    “This is a carefully considered measure to help curtail the spread of Covid-19,” stated Kananu.

    On Sunday alone, Nairobi was the leading county with 509 cases followed by Kiambu 99, Uasin Gishu 59, Machakos 48, Nakuru 46, Kajiado 38, Meru 13, Kitui 12, Nandi 11, Kilifi 9, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Marsabit 5, Bungoma 4,
    Murang’a 3, Vihiga 3, Kakamega 2, Laikipia 2, Nyandarua 2, and Taita1

    Other counties that had positive cases were Taveta 2, Wajir 2, West Pokot 2, Turkana 1, Baringo 1, Lamu 1,
    Migori 1, Mombasa 1, Garissa 1, Nyeri 1 and Homa Bay 1.

    Five counties including Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Nakuru and Machakos are currently under partial lockdown due to the spike of Covid-19 third wave.
