The former Nyeri Town lawmaker flagged a statement that had gone viral on social media on Thursday, August 25, as fake further calling on Kenyans to ignore it.
Wambugu noted that the message came from a pseudo social media page bearing his name.
Further, the former legislator noted that the statement had gone viral on Twitter with many questioning whether he had defected from Azimio.
In the fake post, Wambugu had purportedly called out Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni for claiming that there was mass rigging in the Mt Kenya region that saw Raila lose to President-elect William Ruto.
“My brother Kioni, stop inciting violence by saying that there was voter bribery in Mt Kenya.
“I am sure people on Mt Kenya did what was in their hearts and elected leaders whom they wanted. Accept and wait for another chance in 2027,” read the fake post in part.
Notably, the fake statement surfaced on social media days after the Jubilee SG claimed that the majority of the Azimio candidates in the vote-rich region were rigged out in the just concluded polls.
Earlier in the month, the Jubilee party flagged fake social media pages created under their members’ names that were being used to spread propaganda during the electioneering period.
In particular, the outgoing ruling party noted that their vice chairperson David Murathe was the most affected person.
Further, they called on Kenyans to be cautious about the information they accessed on social media adding that the news was meant to mislead the public.
“Please note that the Jubilee Party vice chairperson Hon David Murathe does not have any social media accounts,” Jubilee warned.
