  • Four international organizations have been approved by the Cabinet to host their offices in Kenya following a meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, May 12.

In a statement seen by kenyagist.com, the Cabinet has considered and gave a nod for the institutions to set up shop, following the signing of agreements with the state.

The new developments are in line with the government’s vision to maintain Kenya’s reputation in the region as a diplomatic hub.

“To cement the place Kenya as a diplomatic hub and as a host to leading international organizations, Cabinet approved four-country host agreements,” read the statement in part.

Among the companies that have received the green light is the MasterCard Foundation which wants to set up its country office in Nairobi.

Others include the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Regional Office for East and Southern Africa and the Temporary Secretariat of the African Audiovisual and Cinema Commission (AACC) in Kenya.

Cabinet also signed an agreement with the Rockefeller Foundation – a multinational American entity looking to improve the lives of people and the planet through innovation.

The government further reviewed and approved and ratified bilateral agreements with other countries including the agreement between Kenya and America on Employment of Dependents of Official Employees.

Also approved was the agreement on defence cooperation between Kenya and Turkey, Egypt, Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

“To further secure Kenya’s overall competitiveness, Cabinet considered and approved the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kenya and the Swiss Federal Council of Defence Cooperation in Training on Peace Support Operations,” the statement continued.

The meeting chaired by Uhuru also saw the approvals of several policies touching on the county and national governments as well as parastatals, all aimed at cushioning Kenyans during the tough economic period.

Among the directives issued was to the Ministry of Treasury to maintain fuel stabilization programme to cushion Kenyans from the influx in the cost of fuel products witnessed globally.
