According to renowned author Tiffany Dufu, If you really want something you are going to have to do something that you have never done before to achieve your goal.

The statement can explain Gladys Muthoni’s acts that led to her arrest on Tuesday 21st April, after a daring act to leave Nairobi despite the cessation on movement.

Muthoni used a miraa vehicle to sneak out of the city beating the cessation of movement order declared to curb the spread of covid-19 out of Nairobi.

”I had an operation performed on me at Kijabe Hospital and thus could not travel to Meru before the lockdown was declared. I still had an appointment with my doctor at Kijabe and had to recover first before engaging myself in such a long journey,” she states.

According to Muthoni, on April15, she was referred to Nairobi West Hospital for radiotherapy sessions since Kijabe Hospital was not offering that service.

”I was referred to Nairobi West hospital and the charges at the hospital were too expensive for me. That is why I had to find a way to reach Meru and source for more funds for my cancer treatment,” she narrates.

According to Meru County Police, Commander Patrick Lumumba, Muthoni together with two drivers of the miraa vehicle were arrested after a tip off from the public, with police officers arresting them in Meru Town.

The three were placed under mandatory quarantine in line with government directives for anybody caught leaving the city in order to ascertain their Covid-19 status.

”Gladys and the two drivers are already in quarantine cause they travelled together from Nairobi to here and we do not know their status, doctors will have to determine that,

”She could have gotten the correct medical documentation and use a rightful means to travel to Meru, why was she hiding? What she could have said is that she is under medication, and we could have found a way to assist her but not hiding.”

This is the latest case that highlights different ways Kenyans are using to beat the partial lockdown and the dusk-to-dawn curfew declared in the city. On Saturday, April 18, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 8 individuals travelled to Homa Bay county with an empty coffin in the pretext of attending a burial. The driver of the said vehicle would later test positive for the virus.
