Why Employee Arguing With Boss Claiming to Be Ruto's Friend Was Arrested

-

  • A restaurant in Nairobi, whose owner was recorded in a viral miniature video reportedly threatening his workers, sought to set records straight, sharing his side of the story.

On Friday, December 9, the restaurant’s management argued that their employees stole from the company, prompting them to call the police. The altercation reportedly ensued after the embattled staff were released from police cells.

“We had a few issues with our waitresses and barman, which we reported to the local DCI officers on November 24, upon which they offered help and arrested the workers on December 1, 2022, on suspicion of defrauding the company.

“After release, they came to our premises threatening the management and hence the drama began between our management and the aforementioned workers,” the management claimed.

Prior to their arrest, the management consulted with the IT department, followed some leads and concluded that the scam was done via mobile money coding.

“The management later learned that the staff members had been released on bond for a later investigation. We made it clear that we are not going to pay them until the investigation is complete,” the administration added.

Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, responded to the video via a statement issued by the National Police Service on Thursday, December 8, indicating that police officers kicked off investigations into the incident.

The police urged the lady in the viral video to file an official complaint in the nearest police station.

“In accordance with the National Police Service mandate to serve and protect all citizens, we have commenced our investigation Into the matter,” Deputy Inspector General, Noor Gabow, stated, on behalf of his superior.

Koome, through Gabow, asked employees and employers to resolve their disputes through negotiations and Labour and Small Claims Courts, rather than resorting to threats.

The viral video had attracted thousands of viewers with mixed reactions from Kenyans on Twitter.

“He is going to an extent of threatening an employee and will be taken nowhere because he speaks to the President directly,” Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai lamented.

The employer had claimed that he was well connected and would occasionally speak directly with President William Ruto.

“I am not paying you, do you think you can take me anywhere, listen I talk to the President directly.

“If I resolve to take action against you you will regret it, I will not pay you,” the man stated to an emotional lady.
