A photo surfaced online showing Gitonga at a car dealership, reportedly acquiring a new ride, Lexus LX570 2016, that people suspected was a gift to him.
The resident of Umoja, in a video that surfaced the same day, quickly quashed rumours that he was the owner of a new ride.
“Hello, Fellow Kenyans, the rumours that people are peddling that I have been gifted a car are a lie.
“I am still in the house relaxing I am practicing social distancing and sanitizing. People should stop lying and say the truth. I am Michael Gitonga,” he stated.
Speaking to kenyagist.com, a representative from Maridadi Motors, which shared the photo, confirmed that Gitonga had visited the yard on Wednesday, August 12, with the intention of purchasing a car.
The manager of the car dealership, however, declined to divulge any information on the matter, explaining that a proper briefing would be prepared on Friday, August 14.
In the two photos that went viral, Gitonga is seen posing in front of the cars while in the other image, he is sitting in the drivers seat of a car.
Maridadi Motors captioned the two pictures asking, “Which car do you suggest Uhunye takes from our showroom?”
The Lexus LX570 2016 is a four wheel drive car that contains Rear air conditioning, with separate controls, driver and front passenger heated-cushion, heated-seatback and has a 5.7L V-8 Engine.
Photos of Njogo were shared widely on social media with some people speculating they were old pictures of the commander-in-chief, probably before his first term as president in 2013.
Gitonga opened up on resembling the President, adding that it had affected his way of life as Kenyans had asked him to donate money on several occasions.
“Sometimes, I meet people who tell me that they have not had anything to eat and being ‘Uhunye’, I have to give them some money. In fact, that name has really made me suffer,” Njogu told Inooro FM.
