  • John Waluke’s wife, Roseline Waluke has opened up on numerous insults she has faced ever since she set up a pay bill number to help her husband raise funds for bail.

Waluke, Sirisia MP, was jailed for 67 years and ordered to pay a fine of Ksh 727 million to secure his freedom after being found guilty of stealing taxpayers Ksh 300 million through a maize scandal. Waluke was jailed alongside Grace Wakhungu, former Vice President Moody Awori’s sister.

Waluke’s family disclosed that Kenyans aided them to raise Ksh 360,000 through the pay bill number, with the total amount of money raised so far amounting to Ksh 250 million. Out of the funds, Ksh 100 million was allegedly contributed by one of Kenya’s top politicians.

Roseline, however, lamented that she had abandoned pleading with Kenyans to help her as many who called to contribute ridiculed and trolled her.

“I regret starting this project to help raise funds for my husband. People have been mocking me and hurling abuses at me instead of assisting,†

“I have left everything to God. At times people say that they can’t contribute money for a thief,” Roseline lamented in an interview with People Daily.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji stated that he was hawk-eyed and would investigate any source of funds contributed towards Waluke’s bail. Haji proclaimed that he would not let proceeds of corrupt money be used to secure the freedom of a graft suspect.

Waluke’s family argued that the directive affected their ability to raise the necessary funds. A number of wealthy politicians who declared their support for Waluke also shied away from contributing funds following the directive.

A 33-year-old Bungoma businessman Moses Nandwale had pledged to help raise the money

As Waluke’s family grapples with raising the funds, Grace Wakhungu’s Ksh 700 million fine was reportedly raised within one month

Wakhungu had been handed 69 years jail term with a fine of Ksh 707 million.

Waluke and Wakhungu’s bail hearing was slated for Friday, August 7.
