  • Sirisia Member of Parliament, John Waluke, pleaded with President William Ruto to intervene in his court case where he was sentenced to 67 years in jail.

Speaking at Kakamega State Lodge on Thursday, December 8, Waluke beseeched the head of state to help him get a reprieve in his case indicating that it was politically instigated.

He expressed that Ruto’s allies had their cases revisited after getting into office, calling on the same to be extended to him.

“You are the father of the nation. Is there another President? Even the birds in the air are under him.

“I want to plead with you over my case. Help me with it, Mr President, because I was told to leave you and go to them (Azimio) so that they can remove my case,” he stated.

Waluke added that the case commenced when he was in Ruto’s camp, adding that former President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to have it withdrawn if he dumped Kenya Kwanza.

Additionally, he revealed that he confronted Uhuru after being temporarily released from prison. Waluke was irked by Azimio La Umoja’s failure to support his bid for the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) position.

“The other day, I told him that he retired and left me hanging. He told me that he tried his best, but he couldn’t.

“I asked him how that was possible, yet he was the President. I told him that Ruto was able to help free others. What kind of President was he?” he wondered.

Further, he promised to work with the President to ensure that the region benefitted from his presidency.

“We welcome you to Western Kenya. After leaving prison, the MPs from this region elected me as the chairman of the caucus, and I will ensure that we will walk together,” he stated.

Waluke was sentenced to 67 years with an alternative of a Ksh1 billion fine after being found guilty of embezzlement of funds in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) scandal. He, however, appealed the case after he was released on Friday, November 18.

Ruto arrived in Kakamega on December 8 for his official tour of the Western Kenya county and was welcomed by his allies and local leaders.

“Central Organisation Trade Union boss, Francis Atwoli, Western Kenya MPs and governors, alongside former Kakamega senator, Cleophas Malala, and his successor, Boni Khalwale, received the President,” Sharon Ambani, a journalist based in Kakamega told Kenyans.co.ke.
