Victor Wanyama Comes to the Aid of Needy Pupils

Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Victor Mugubi Wanyama on Friday, December 27 came to the aid six needy pupils who are set to join form one in January 2020.

Through his Victor Wanyama Foundation, the footballer picked the six from a list of 48 applicants and awarded them all secondary school scholarships.

In a statement, the foundation announced through its social media pages on Friday, December 27 that the successful candidates were picked on merit and need.

“Following calls for applicants, the Victor Wanyama Foundation received 48 applications. After careful vetting based on merit and need, the Foundation has awarded it’s Secondary School Scholarships to the following six students…” the statement from the foundation read.

It would go-ahead to list Eva Basweti Moraa (Sironga Girls High School), Kyule Daniel Kitusa (Nanyuki High School), Omondi Tamara Zawadi (St Joseph Cheptiret), Adhiya Sammy Oriko (Maranda High School), Makokha Lamech   (Maranda High School) and Trizah Shem (St Brigids Girls high school Kiminini) as the beneficiaries of the inaugural scholarship.

The foundation went on to explain the expenses that would be covered by the scholarship over the four years of high school for the successful candidates.

“The Scholarship will cover tuition fees, boarding and related expenses for the four year period,” it explained.

Despite the good tiding, the students were also given conditions to fulfil along their studies to maintain the support.

“The students are expected to maintain discipline and good academic achievement in line with the founder’s vision,” outlined the Foundation.

Wanyama congratulated the six students, urged them to seize the opportunity and promised to visit each in their respective schools.

“I wish to congratulate the successful applicants and most definitely I will visit all of you in your new schools when I come back home. This is a good opportunity for you to work hard without any distractions and I would like to urge you to seize and make it count. All the best as you begin this journey.” stated Wanyama.
