  • President Uhuru Kenyatta stopped his motorcade midway after leaving State House for Ardhi House on Tuesday, April 27 where he launched the digital land information platform.

Uhuru kept his aides at standstill and waiting for 45 minutes as he acted on an impromptu duty.

The President had received a phone call from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the two spoke for nearly an hour.

In their conversation, the President and the Prime Minister discussed several matters of mutual interest, top among them the Global Education Summit which Kenya and the UK will co-host in July 2021.

Through the Summit, Kenya and the UK aim to raise $5 billion (Ksh539.5 Billion) the amount needed to get 175 million children into school around the world.

Kenyatta and Boris Johnson further talked about Kenya-UK collaboration in the fight against Covid-19, climate change, and regional security and peace.

“On Covid-19, the President and the Prime Minister explored new avenues of collaboration including research on identifying new mutations of the virus and accelerated access to vaccines.

“President Kenyatta and PM Johnson expressed concerns on the unfolding political situation in Somalia, and resolved to work more closely through the UN Security Council, the Commonwealth, and other multilateral platforms to ensure regional peace and stability,” State House stated.

On climate change, the President and the Prime Minister exchanged notes ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in November 2021 and explored opportunities for partnerships in areas such as renewable energy where Kenya is an African success story.

Before attending the Glasgow meeting, Boris and Uhuru will meet once again at US President Joe Biden’s exclusive world leaders meeting that will take place between Thursday, April 22, and Friday, April 23. Uhuru was among the 40 world leaders invited to the Leaders Summit on Climate which will be live-streamed for public viewing.

After his phone call with the UK PM, Uhuru was later driven to Ardhi House, the headquarters of the Ministry of Lands where he launched the National Land Information Management System. The system is expected to expedite land transactions and weed out fraud and corruption.

Ardhi House will conduct its businesses online and will no longer accept manual land documents at the Nairobi Registry.

“The full rollout of the program will facilitate the resolution of historical land disputes and guarantee the security and sanctity of your land title deed,†Uhuru assured.
