Uhuru Nominates 3 Ex-IEBC Bosses for Ambassadorial Jobs

  • President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, October 15 nominated three former IEBC commissioners to head various mission abroad.

    In a statement by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Former IEBC Vice-chair Consolata Nkatha was nominated for the position of the deputy head of the Rome Mission.

    Former commissioners Margaret Mwachanya and Dr Paul Kibiwott were selected for the Islamabad and the Moscow in the deputy positions respectively.

    “The persons who by dint of the presidential action will join our nation’s esteemed foreign service,” the notice read in part.

    The president also nominated and appointed other individuals to serve the nation as Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Permanent Representatives in Kenya’s Embassies/High Commissions/ missions abroad.

    Among those selected for High Commissioners positions are Amb. John Tipis (Canberra), Immaculate Wambua (Ottawa) and Amb. Catherine Mwangi (Pretoria).

    Named for the Ambassadors positions were Amb. Jean Kamau (Addis Ababa), Linday Kiptiness (Bangkok), Amb. Tom Amolo (Berlin), Amb. Lemarron Kaanto (Brasilia) and Amb. Daniel Wambura (Bujumbura)

    Nominated for deputy heads of missions are Mr. Hudson Ivutsia (Abuja), Joakim Kiarie Kamere (London), Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Thomas Chepkato (Mogadishu), Dr. Paul Kibiwott (Moscow), Irene Achieng Oloo (New Delhi), Isaac Parashina (Tel Aviv) and Judy Sijine (The Hague).

    Earlier in October 15, President Uhuru Kenyatta picked former IEBC Director of Voter Education Immaculate Kassait to be Kenya’s first Data Commissioner.

    Her name was forwarded to the National Assembly on Tuesday October 13, which is supposed to vet her for the position within 21 days. 

    If approved, she will be in charge of overseeing the implementation and the enforcement of the data protection rights, establishing and maintaining a register of data controllers and data processors.

    She will also exercise oversight on data processing operations and verifying whether the processing of data is done in accordance with the regulations.
