  • President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted on a looming reorganisation of his government, in which he would make new appointments.

Speaking during the launch of a new youth programme dubbed Generation Unlimited Kenya, on Thursday, August 4, he let it slip that he would appoint more young Kenyans as Chief Administrative Secretaries.

He explained that he was pleased by the performance of recently appointed CASs Zack Kinuthia (Education) and Nadia Ahmed (ICT and Youth Affairs) which gave him more confidence in young people.

“I really look forward to working with our young people and as I said earlier, in the coming days I will be adding a good number of CASs of the same generation. Young men and women whom I hope will engage with their fellow young people and bring them on board to become decision makers today,†he spoke.

The president described Kenya’s youthful population as the nation’s greatest resource, with the highest potential to uplift the country’s socio economic profile.

“I recognised from the very beginning of my administration that this generation of young people has the potential to expand Kenya’s and Africa’s productive workforce and turn Africa into a frontier of growth and innovation.

“Therefore, my administration has prioritised investments in young people. These investments are yielding results and we can confidently say that Kenya has made good progress towards the achievement of objectives of GenU,” Uhuru lauded.

In June 2020,there were reports that President Kenyatta would reorganise his government, with influence from his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi had urged Uhuru to reorganise his Cabinet, saying as currently constituted it does not support his agenda.

Weeks later, the trail grew cold and a local newspaper reported that the Head of State had decided to shelve the plan.

The plan to appoint new CASs will be a shot in the arm for the youth who have criticised the president for neglecting them.
