  • Super Metro introduced electric buses to five major routes within Nairobi and major satellite towns including Kikuyu and Kitengela.

In an interview with Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, February 14, Super Metro Sacco chairperson, Nelson Mwangi Nduki, revealed that residents of Ngong, Juja and Imara Daima would enjoy the services of the electric buses.

The Kikuyu-bound buses will ply Waiyaki Way through major stops including Westlands, Kangemi, Uthiru and Kinoo. Kitengela-bound buses will on the other hand cover routes along Mombasa Road.

Nduki indicated that the company had five buses in place to offer services to city residents.

In images shared, the buses had been branded Super Metro with number plates of the KD series.

“We actually have five buses and they will be transversing various routes with the city just as the normal buses,” he stated.

Additionally, the electric buses are set to operate during normal working hours.

Regarding the charges, the official indicated that the fare would be similar to the normal diesel-run vehicles.

In a separate statement by electric vehicle company, BasiGo, the launch of the electric buses was undertaken under a partnership programme.

“The number of Electric Buses in Kenya keeps growing! Today, we handed Super Metro its first electric bus. The bus will ply the Central Business District (CBD) -Kikuyu and CBD Kitengela routes,” read the statement in part.

Earlier, in November 2022, the bus company had indicated that 10 electric buses were ordered for the project aimed at revolutionising the transport industry.

“We have actually ordered 10 electric buses. Some are set to arrive in December and start operating in January.

“The new electric buses will be branded with Super Metro colours,” Nduki stated then.
