On Monday, December 23, 2019, the governor was awarded for his efforts in reaching out to the less fortunate and his commitment to reform youths associated with criminal groups.
“I am so humbled and gratified to have been recognised at such a high level but this can only make me proud of the bold steps l have made in my life,” he expressed after receiving the award which was picked for him by Betty Adera.
Further, he promised to continue his humanitarian activities and the campaign to rehabilitate youth from street life as well as encourage them to shun criminal activities.
“Having had a past that is challenging, many youths doing some of these evils approach me for possible solutions on how they can be better citizens and we have helped them get the right counselling and rehabilitation and some have grown into reliable businessmen in society,” Sonko stated.
In a statement sent to newsrooms by Nairobi Communication Director Jacob Elkana, he stated that the honour meant that the governor was entitled to the confidence and trust of members of the US-based organisation.
“He will join the rest of African appointees in similar position in spearheading peace and humanitarian initiatives across the continent,” an excerpt of the statement read.
It is not the first time the governor has received an international award for his humanitarian activities.
In 2018, the governor was named the Good Deeds Goodwill Ambassador in Kenya by Good Deeds Global.
