In a rare expression of love, Mohamed Noorani, husband to the late K24 TV anchor Anjlee Ghadhvi, donated his part of his liver to save his wife who succumbed to liver cancer on Friday, January 10.

In a story packaged by Anjlee and aired by K24 TV in October 2019, the anchor explained of how her husband had shown willingness to donate part of his liver but their blood groups failed to match.

“My husband wanted to help. Unfortunately his blood type is B+ and mine is A+,” remarked the anchor.

However, in November 2016, a family in India requested Mohamed to donate his liver to a man who matched his blood type and in exchange, Anjlee would receive a liver donation from the recipient’s wife, who also matched Anjlee’s blood type.

“The doctors in India connected my family and the family in India who needed a transplant for their relative who was suffering from liver cirrhosis.

“The Indian had blood of group B+ which matched with my husband’s while his wife had blood group A+ which matched with mine. The donors would each give half their livers to both of us,” intimated Anjlee.

Mohamed was driven to help his wife by an inner urge that was inspired by the love they shared.

“My decision to donate the liver to save my wife was a no brainer. There was no discussion to be made between us on the crucial action to save Anjilee’s life,” remarked Mohamed.

Ghadhvi also gave a story of love from Kenyans, initiated by Kameme FM presenter Njogu wa Njoroge when he highlighted the anchor’s plight on radio, moving the hearts of many to contribute Ksh 6.4 million within four hours in October 2016.

“I honestly had no idea how I would be able to collect the cash. Njogu told me a powerful thing that we needed to see what my God and his God were going to do.

“Through the show, I was overwhelmed by the contributions that were made in very little time. This was a miracle to me,” remarked Ghadhvi.

After her treatment in India, the anchor was declared cancer-free and came back to Kenya where she was engaged in campaigns against the killer disease.

Unfortunately, the cancer cells later regenerated in her lungs, signalling the start of another journey at Aga Khan University Hospital.

She had shown great promise in conquering the illness but succumbed on January 10, 2020.

Led by K24 TV Head of Digital and TV Peter Opondo, the Mediamax fraternity eulogized the late anchor as a committed journalist, who had passion for her work.

“My friend Anjlee Gadhvi. You fought that cancer beast with all your might. You did it for your kids, husband. Never lost hope. You always smiled through the pain and insisted on coming to work even at your weakest points. We believed you were winning…until now! RIP my friend,” tweeted Opondo.
