  • Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege was on Saturday, August, 22, surprised by members of a WhatsApp group in her county as they raised money to buy her mandazi.

The members of the Murang’a County Politics (MCP) WhatsApp forum each raised Ksh100 to a total of Ksh1,200 for the legislator to partake in the snack.

Asanteni sana Murang’a County Politics (MCP) WhatsApp forum,” she posted on her social media platforms.

The members stated that they chose the gift because the mandazi known as Ndende was Chege’s favourite at Kinyona shopping centre during her time in school.

A member fo the group Julius Kamau explained that the contributions were a show that residents were invested in their leaders.

She loved ndende (mandazi) a lot, that is why we decided to surprise her during her birthday,†he stated.

Celebrating her birthday on Friday, August 21, Sabina expressed gratitude for her life journey so far.

“Thanking God for this far. I want to be like a sunflower so that even on darkest days I will stand tall and find the sunlight. Happy birthday to me,” she wrote.

She had earlier in the month gifted her elder sister with a brand new car for her 56th birthday.

“Shush you’re the firstborn in our family of nine children and I’m the last born. You carried me on your back when I was young and you fit in our late mum’s shoes. This is just a small present of appreciation as you turn one year older. We as Chege Mutema’s, cherish you. Happy birthday Shush,†shared the Woman Rep.

For the past days, the woman representative has come under fire for defending her stand on cutting trees at Gituamba Eucalyptus Plantation arguing that the trees in Murang’a make the area colder and insecure.

“My opinion and that of many Kinyona residents is that the land needs to be put in a more productive manner with less negative impact to the people. The original idea of a resource centre and related Agriculture research institution should be upheld and the planting of the Eucalyptus be done away with henceforth.

“Environmental friendly trees need to be considered and farmers capacity building needs to be factored in the project,” she stated.
