Deputy President William Ruto, on Friday, October 4, kicked up a storm following his latest remarks on marriage.
According to his close aide, Dennis Itumbi, the DP asked all his male employees who were still bachelors to get married.
Hundreds of netizens took to social media to air their views, with a majority of them questioning the motive behind his advise.
“What has that got to do with this country?” Kennedy Ateya questioned.
A run through the comment section revealed that a majority of Kenyans felt that the statement was ill-timed, bearing the various issues facing the country.
“What is that you are tweeting do you know right now those bachelors can not afford themselves,” Wangeci Ouma stated.
However, there were those who came up with hilarious theories, claiming that the country’s second in command was planning ahead, hoping the new couples would translate to votes in the future.
Others teased Itumbi, claiming DP Ruto was targeting him specifically, as he is yet to tie the knot.
The DP’s alleged comments were backed by a group of netizens, who felt that it was sound advice.
“I guess that is an advice from an elder, not a command. That’s part of counseling the youth,” one user posted on twitter.
Ruto celebrated 27 years of marriage to Rachel on December 21, 2018.
