  • Kenya’s outspoken political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi took a swipe at the Deputy President William Ruto claiming that he will not become the next president of Kenya.

In his video shared on Sunday, March 14, Ngunyi listed Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Musalia Mudavadi, Fred Matiang’i, Alfred Mutua and Ruto as prospects of the top seat come the next general election.

He, however, singled out the deputy president from the list stating that despite lacking certainty on who will succeed Uhuru, Ruto does not stand the chance of becoming president.

“We do not know who will become President in 2022. All I know is that it will not be William Ruto. End of discussion! blessed Sunday,” said Ngunyi.

He further dismissed the new entrants into the presidential race, the likes of Mukhisa Kituyi and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, stating that they could not succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ngunyi’s sentiments were equally echoed by the Secretary General of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Francis Atwoli, on February 24.

“I do not know who will be the President in 2022, but I know who will not be… I wish the DP had good advisors and would still be supporting all of President Uhuru’s projects,†Atwoli said during an interview on Citizen TV on February 25.

This is not the first time Mutahi has criticised Ruto’s ambitions to become president; Mutahi has also claimed that it was him who helped him (the DP) become who is in politics.

Ngunyi reportedly made the claims on May 7, 2020, avowing that he single-handedly engineered Ruto’s ‘hustler’ brand, thereby propelling him to political prominence.

“I created the hustler nation. I created the hustler vs dynasty fight. Check history. And then I made it fashionable for a chicken seller to own a Ksh1.2 billion village house. True or not,” Ngunyi stated.

Recently, talks of who is likely to succeed the president after completing his second term come 2022 has sparked debate over an election that is more than a year away.
