“The Senate will receive a message from His Excellency the President on the nomination of Susan Jemtai Koech for appointment to the position of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya,” the Order Paper read in part.

Jemtai had an exemplary career as the Principal Secretary at the Ministry of East African Community under former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised a vacancy for the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank’s position on November 1, 2022.

This was meant to adhere to the Central Bank of Kenya Act which requires the Central Bank to have two deputy governors.

Apart from Jemtai, other candidates who were shortlisted for the position included; Charles Ringera, Paul Muthaura, Rose Ngugi, Munir Ahmed, and James Teko Lopoyetum.

Others included; Gerald Nyaoma, Jean Wameyo, Christopher Mwembesa, and Fredrick Otieno Oyugi.

Apart from Jemtai’s nomination, the Senate will also receive nominations for the National Climate Change Council members.

The President nominated Emily Mwende Waita, John Kioli, Umar Omar, and George Odera Outa for the council.
