Ruto announced that Mwaura will take up two roles at the Kenya Kwanza national campaign – he will be the team leader in Kiambu County and will also be the team’s liaison with people living with disabilities.
The development comes after Mwaura failed to clinch the UDA parliamentary ticket in the recently held party nominations in Ruiru constituency. He lost to incumbent Simon Kingara.
“Welcome, Hon Isaac Mwaura to the Kenya Kwanza national campaign. I wish you well in your new role as a team leader in Kiambu County and also in the community of people living with disabilities,” Ruto declared.
The DP further welcomed Mwaura’s turnaround to accept defeat to King’ara in the competitive nomination exercise, terming it as a noble decision. This, after the Senator initially asked the party to nullify the results.
“Your magnanimity to accept the outcome of our just concluded party nominations in Ruiru Constituency adds to your leadership credentials,” read the statement in part.
On April 17, Mwaura, who garnered 2,428 votes against King’ara’s 4,688 votes. declared that he would work with the latter. He noted that although he was disappointed by the loss, the time had come for him to move on and focus on the August 9 General Election.
“Joining hands with my competitor Simon Ng’ang’a today at Kist county tallying centre after he was declared winner of the Ruiru parliamentary seat that I hotly contested for. It’s now time to heal the deep wounds out of the party primaries and thus move forward towards the August General Election,” Mwaura stated.
The legislator explained that UDA and the voice of the people surpassed his own personal interests. He added that the move would ensure that the party remained united and remained geared towards ensuring a William Ruto presidency.
Mwaura is among UDA politicians who have been offered positions in the campaign team in the wake of party primaries. On April 14, comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known by his stage name MC Jesse was offered a position in exchange for dropping his bid.
MC Jesse was named to the presidential campaign team after he allegedly dropped out of the Imenti South parliamentary race in favour of Mwiti Kathaara.
The comedian revealed that he was taken aback by the decision, noting that while there had been discussions, no final decision was reached upon.
“I did not stand there to admit that we had agreed to step down, when people visit Ruto’s residence they take photos and the information about me stepping down was shared later on social media platforms. That was not what we agreed,” Jesse stated.
