Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has pushed for more Building Bridges Initiative reforms after President Uhuru Kenyatta went on a purge within Jubilee, ousting allies aligned to his deputy William Ruto.

On Thursday, May 14, Odinga met with his party members both in the Senate and National Assembly and through Facebook, announced that they reviewed the latest developments in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

However, more details of the meeting surfaced, with Odinga disclosing that he hadn’t considered moving into government until the BBI agenda takes shape, while also considering cleaning up his own house like Kenyatta.

In a report by Daily Nation on Friday, May 15, an insider tipped that Odinga had directed Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi to reconstitute committee memberships in both houses.

“We will seize every opportunity to bring the reforms we have been yearning for at this moment when there is still a working relationship between the two leaders,” the source intimated, as Kenyatta and Odinga remain adamant that they would seize control of the two houses to implement their BBI agenda.

ODM changes commenced with the de-whipping of Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina from the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee and the House Business Committee for aligning with Jubilee politicians to clinch the seats against his party’s wish. Others on the list of ODM purge has not been disclosed.

Odinga stated that he would not move into government with Kenyatta until the BBI changes take shape.

His staunch allies outside his party led by Central Trade Organisation Union Secretary-General Francis Atwoli and Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe have numerously stated that he and Kenyatta would be part of the government in 2022.

Odinga allegedly clarified the claims and revealed that he was working towards a post-2022 relationship with Jubilee as reports added that he was soon poised to be chairman of an Economy Recovery Team, which would aid Kenyatta to revive the economy post-Covid-19.

In an interview with Radio Citizen in April 2020, Odinga stated that the BBI wave would not be stopped, even by Coronavirus.

“If the referee blows the whistle for half time during a football match for players to go and rest, do you say the match is over? We are almost there, the report will be presented to the government for implementation before being taken Parliament to come up with a bill before subjecting it to a referendum,” he disclosed.
