Multiple reports alleged that APC Wilson Kortom shot dead the driver who was transporting charcoal after being denied a Ksh3,000 bribe.
Citizen Digital was first to report that the incident reportedly occurred on the Pusangi-Esoit Road in Trans Mara Narok County on Sunday, December 29, 2019.
“The accused after committing the offence surrendered at Esoit Patrol Base where he was later taken to Kilgoris Base,” Transmara West Sub-county Police commander Dahir Abdulahi affirmed while revealing that the deceased was a 21-year-old man.
He, however, denied that the vehicle was ferrying charcoal.
The Probox vehicle had two occupants at the time the incident occurred.
Kortom, an officer attached to Mbata Club in Lolgorian reportedly stopped the duo at a roadblock then demanded the bribe.
A confrontation ensued, with the driver alighting from the vehicle to remove the stones in the roadblock manned by the officer.
This reportedly irked the officer who shot the driver in the chest before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.
The 21-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at the St Joseph’s Mission Hospital.
