The student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was ambushed in one of his hideouts, where he was expecting to meet a supplier of the drugs.
“When he saw us, he dived into the dam and left the drugs behind. However, our officers were swift and they managed to apprehend him. They also recovered the drugs from the water,†Nyeri County Police Commander Adiel Nyange stated.
Additionally, Nyange disclosed that the student was also found in possession of 40 kilogrammes of marijuana, two stolen motorcycles and illicit brew.
Police officers also discovered more of the suspect’s hideouts in Asian Quarters and Kamakwa estates.
Here, the officers recovered more drugs and proceeds of drug trade worth more than Ksh 55,000.
The student has been out of school since learning was discontinued by the government as part of measures of combating the spread of COVID-19.
The county commander indicated that his family did not know that he was a thug, rather, indicated that he was a master’s degree student.
Having been found in possession of a bunch of keys, police believe that he has been breaking into people’s houses in Nyeri.
Officers have also apprehended two more suspects and the three will help police officers with further investigations.
